so ellen and i are gettin' ready for the show this morning (she eating a 100 calorie snack, i with my chicken and salad), listening to this tape of jerry sandusky on brian williams' new show, what's it called...? can't remember. if you haven't seen it, look at this BUT JUST FOR A SEC. trust me.
thankfully, costas was on the show last night and for some unknown reason, so was jerry sandusky, you know, the guy accused in the sexual assault case at penn state (perhaps you've heard of it)? he's on there talking about how he showered with boys, touched legs, etc. but without intent of sexual contact. believe him or not, the more stunning thing to me is that THIS GUY IS TALKING TO ANYONE (attempting to rip hair from head in exasparatory gesture -- for visual effect only).
i looked at ellen and said, "somewhere there's a prosecutor shaking his head because of all the evidence he's giving." seriously? just to be sure i wasn't off base, i called local atty steve bough, a frequent contributor to the morning show, who went so far as to call it "legal malpractice" to let the guy talk like that. of course, if sandusky doesn't ask for legal advice or doesn't listen to his lawyer....
(when i was a kid, people would sometimes wonder about my take on the world. i'm hear to tell you that being raised by a criminal defense attorney gives you a very realistic look at life and society. (that's a blog post all its own. no, a whole series of posts!) you say warped? i say realistic. how does this guy no know to keep his yap shut?)
then there are reports that the assistant coach in the middle of this, that his testimony may be misinterpreted, and supposedly there were news reports about all of this BACK IN MARCH! they were only picked up, even in PA, in the last two weeks.
this one is a long way from being over...especially if sandusky's attorney doesn't muzzle him (that is if his head hasn't exploded already or he hasn't given up the case). and with so many twists and turns, hard telling how many butts will be on hot seats before we lay this one to rest.
