Missouri to spent $35M to spur housing

A Missouri Housing Development agency has approved a $35 million plan to spur housing. $15 million of Missouri's federal stimulus money dedicated for paying the property taxes for low- and middle-income people who buy a house next year....up to $1,250 in property taxes. Bonnie Hutchcroft, ReMax broker in Blue Springs, says buyers will take all the help they can get. According to the State Tax Commission, the average residential real estate tax bill for a Missouri homeowner is $1,160. Supporters called it a simple tax cut for Missourians that could help spur the economy. But one critic questioned if the property tax portion fit within the agency's mission.
