KC School District to Close More Schools

It isn't a pretty forecast for the Kansas City Missouri School District which will likely see more schools close. Superintendent Dr. John Covington has warned if the district doesn't significantly tighten the belt, they will be $6-million in the red with contingency money gone as well. He says finance isn't the only reason buildings will close. Covington says the main reason is academic achievement. Covington wouldn't commit to a number but he did say it would be more than what was closed last year. Layoffs will also have to happen. Teacher Union President Andrea Flinders says if the district would have tried to solve these problems years ago, it wouldn't be as bad now.
