COMBAT tax up for vote Tuesday in Jackson County

A simple majority is all that is needed for the renewal of the Combat anti-drug tax and Jackson County residents will head to the polls tomorrow to decide the future of the quarter cent sales tax. Jackson County Prosecutor Jim Kanatzar says the issue can't be minimized....the combat tax is pivitol to law enforcement and the public safety of the community. Kanatzar says the tax alone pays for 24 police officers in Kansas City and others throughout the county. It comprises one third of the budget of the prosecutors office. The tax is expected to generate 19 million dollars this year. Some have criticized the county for spending 800-thousand dollars to put the tax on the ballot instead of waiting until the August or November elections next year....but Kanatzar says they were worried the tax would get buried under numerous other city and national issues
