Deer hunt protestors taking case to court??

The "thinning of the herd" at Shawnee Mission Park could end up in court. KMBZ spoke with the man trying to stop what he calls a "slaughter". Johnson County officials won't confirm whether harvesting up to 350 deer from the park has started, but say it's necessary due to overpopulation.

Jason Miller of Bite Club of KC , which has opposed the plans, hints that a request for an injunction may be just around the corner. Miller says since the hunting is being done at night, he thinks some restrictions normally enforced for hunters are being sidestepped.

He poured a bucket of blood over himself at a park entrance last night, but says his group's best effort could be in court.

Meanwhile, at a time when local food pantries are seeing need up and supplies down - the deer harvest at Shawnee Mission Park could provide some much-needed help.

The Johnson County parks and rec department announced that the meat from the harvest will be donated to the Harvesters Community Food Network to give out, according to the star.

We don't know if the deer harvest has begun, but we know Harvesters has not gotten any meat first. The meat will come in ground-up packages. The USDA will test the meat first.
