Storms bring downpour to metro; heatwave continues

Call it "hot days and stormy nights" as another round of violent weather made for an interesting night across much of the metro.

On Tuesday night is was Raytown and KCK, last night it was Shawnee and Merriam seemed to get the worst of what mother nature threw at us.  What she threw, she threw quickly and with great force.

During a period of just 30 to 45 minutes, the National Weather Service estimates well over 2 inches of rain fell on Shawnee and Merriam as well as other parts of the metro.

There were as many as 3,500 early this morning still without power because of the storms.  NBC Action News meteorologist Brett Anthony says you can blame the severe weather on the severe heat.

An excessive heat warning continues until Saturday at around 7pm.
