DeSoto Students Get Longer Summer Break



If students in the De Soto school district have extra-wide grins on their faces this morning, maybe it's because they've learned their school year will end two and a half days early. The story from KMBZ's Ken James...



(KMBZ-AM) The De Soto school board comes up with a way to save money: end the school year early.

The De Soto district's superintendent came up with the idea...and the school board went along. Officials say the move will save the district thousands of dollars in transportation, food and other costs.

After May 22nd, parents will be able to use childcare services offered by the YMCA and Johnson County Parks and Recreation -- similar to programs offered during spring and winter breaks.
