E-mail Lisa Carter
Where were you born?
I was born in Fairfield, Illinois on September 27th. (You didn’t think I was going to give the year, did you) I share my birthdate with my husband (Dale), Mike Shanin and producer Matt Elder.
Where did you go to school? I attended college at the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, Indiana.
How long have you been in radio? Radio has been my passion for nearly 20 years!
Where have you worked in radio… other industries?
I started my radio career in Evansville, Indiana, where I co-hosted a morning show with my husband. When we moved to Hartford, Connecticut, I worked in newspaper for about three years. It paid the bills, but just wasn’t satisfying. When radio is in your blood, it’s hard to be happy doing anything else
Any special awards, accolades… et cetera?
I’ve been honored by the Associated Press in both Indiana and Missouri, the Kansas Association of Broadcasters, the Missouri Broadcasters Association and was recently the recipient of a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Best News Series.
Kids, family?
Lisa and her husband Dale live in Blue Springs along with their sons Matt, Jonathan and Nick…2 black and white shih tzus named Duncan and Daphnie plus Angel the hamster (formerly known as Oscar—don’t ask).
Hobbies? I love to garden.....I’d say I have a light green thumb! I’ m working up the courage to tackle a water garden at some point in my life. If you listen to the radio, you probably know that I’m a fan of NASCAR and enjoy covering the races at Kansas Speedway. My husband and I like to attend Chiefs games, but I always have to remind myself to whistle—not yell! I’ve lost my voice several times because of my “enthusiasm.? And I’m a loyal BAND PARENT! (That means my Saturdays from September thru early November are spent at marching competitions) My son Matt plays trumpet in the Blue Springs High School Golden Regiment. One of my dearest memories is from November of 2005 when the band marched in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. I was curbside in New York for the parade. As my son marched by, he saw me in the crowd and gave me the biggest smile! It’s a shared moment we’ll both never forget. Our youngest son Jonathan is a budding trombone player. He brought tears to my eyes (in a good way) last September when I opened my birthday present. He had written “Happy Birthday? on sheet music and proceeded to play it for me on his trombone. Nick is busy planning his future, trying to decide whether to pursue a career in law, the culinary field or both! (He’s ambitious)
