Kansas City, MO - The former "chief" of the streets of downtown
Kansas City has passed away. Retired officer Willis "Whitebear" White
died July 6 at the age of 77. White was a downtown icon, who worked
as a foot-beat officer for 30 years.
Officer White was called "Chief" by many downtown regulars because
of his Sioux Indian heritage. Dozens of friends, downtown business
owners and the local media celebrated his retirement in 1990.
Visitation for retired Officer White will be held Tuesday, July
15th, from 7-9 p.m. at the Passantino Brothers Funeral Home at 2117
Independence Avenue. Services are scheduled for Wednesday, July 16th
at 10 a.m. at the Miracle Valley Church, located at 5240 E. 30th
Street in Kansas City, Missouri. White will be buried in Watson,
Missouri.
