Two people are confirmed dead after a Central Airlines Aero Commander crashed northeast of Lawrence in rural Leavenworth County, south of Tongonoxie. Lloyd Hetrick, an official with Lawrence Municipal Airport, said the two people on board the plane died when it crashed. The plane took off from the downtown airport in Kansas City, Missouri. The crash happened just after 10am in a field near County Road One and Cantrell Road. The damage to the aircraft is extensive, no word on what may have caused the crash.
