The Kansas City region was painted with a thin coating of ice, sleet and snow Thursday morning. Street conditions deteriorated rapidly, prompting school superintendents to cancel classes in several districts, including Kansas City, Missouri. The precipitation arrived in the area shortly after midnight. By the time the rush hour started, most roads were slippery, some bordering on treacherous. The sleet and snow were expected to continue, off and on, through the remainder of the morning, with occasional recurrences into the nighttime and early morning hours Friday.
