The Kansas City Council's finance committee will consider an ordinance Wednesday that is aimed at improving financial transparency.

Council members Heather Hall, Teresa Loar and Katheryn Shields sponsored the measure asking for details on how the Loews Convention Center Hotel will be financed.

The city would kick in $35-million in convention and tourism funds to be repaid with the room tax. The city would also donate a parcel of land worth $7-million. Hall, Loar and Shields say they have been asking for financial details for months without getting the answers they want.

KMBZ asked Heather Hall if she thinks there is a concerted effort to keep the city council in the dark.

"Oh, I certainly hope not," Hall said. "I can't image that people would want to be unkind that way."

Hall and the two co-sponsors support the hotel and say they are asking for the information in an effort to be fiscally responsible.

The committee will hear public testimony Wednesday morning.
