Law enforcement officers are looking for two inmates who escaped from the Pemiscot County Jail in Caruthersville, Missouri.

The two reportedly used an air duct to break out of the jail in the town of about 5,800 residents in the Missouri bootheel. The escape took place early Sunday morning.

William Carter is charged with first-degree murder for allegedly running over his wife and another man with a car. Joseph Latamondeer faces felony charges in connection with kidnapping and domestic assault.

"We were able to see on our citywide camera system that, shortly after 2 a.m., both suspects passed by our water department, then they crossed over the levy to the Mississippi River," said Tony Jones, Caruthersville Police Chief.

Both men were scheduled to appear in court Monday. Law enforcement officers consider both of them dangerous.
