The Missouri Department of Transportation is inviting the public to an informational meeting about a project that will affect one of the most frustrating highway interchanges in the Northland.

Talk to almost any person who drives around the Liberty area and they will say the interchange at Interstate 35 and Route 152 is a mess.

"It's absolute dread, I mean that intersection is always busy," said one woman.

"There's a lot of traffic," said a male motorist. "I usually just avoid 152 altogether."

A project is planned to replace the 152 bridge over the interstate beginning in the spring of 2019. The first phase of the project should take about four months, said Shelie Daniel, MoDOT engineer.

Interchange improvements to Kansas Street and Route 291 are also planned, Daniel said. The entire project is expected to be complete in 2020.

The information meeting will be held Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Liberty Community Center.

MoDOT has posted more information about the project at its website.
