Missouri Governor Eric Greitens signed an executive order to expand paid parental leave to more state employees.

Other state elected officials have joined in the measure.

New policies allow for a primary caregiver, a mother, to take six weeks off with full pay. The worker's job is still there when they return. Secondary caregivers, usually fathers, can take three weeks off with full pay.

Wendy Doyle, head of the Woman's Foundation in Kansas City, said she is very happy with the executive order. The organization is working to expand parental leave further.

"Last legislative session there was a House Bill introduced to start the discussion on paid maternity and family leave, something we'll be working on for 2018," Doyle said.
