Local KC band connects kids and parents through rock 'n' roll

A local rock band in Kansas City is finding ways to help parents and children connect.

Becoming a dad didn't put a halt to my music career, said Mike Niewald. "When my kids were born, the emotions that struck me kind of inspired me to write some songs, individually, about each child."

Niewald's songs helped begin the Doo Dads, a rock band that's all about connecting parents and kids in a fun and entertaining way.

The Doo Dads are all about kids having fun and having grownups maintaining their childlike sense of humor.

"I can't help myself, that's just the way I am," Niewald said. "I'm one of the Doo Dads after all."

The Doo Dads encourage other dads to do what they love and have fun doing it.

The band performs July 1 at the Johnson County Arts and Heritage Center beginning at 11 a.m.
