It is one of those joints where everybody knows your name. Kelly's Westport Inn is celebrating its 70th anniversary of serving drinks in Kansas City.

Anyone who has ordered a pint of Guinness in Kansas City is likely to have heard of the Westport establishment, which traces its lineage to 1947, when County Clare native Randal Kelly stood behind the bar. The family tradition continues with Kelly's sons Pat and Kyle at the helm, along with grandchildren Colleen and Mitch.

Not much has changed at Kelly's, not even the creaky old wooden floors. Kyle says he uses the old tried and true formula, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

"It's stay the course, try to keep the culture consistent, respond to the market, which we have, somehow, for 70 years," Kyle Kelly said, saying he now watches his kids do the same.

Randal Kelly passed away almost 30 years ago.

Kyle says his dad could not have run his business any other way than bringing a little of County Clare to his adopted hometown.
