Twenty-thousand bikers are expected at Grain Valley for the National Bikers Roundup this weekend.

The four-day festival at Thunder Valley and Valley Speedway runs through Sunday.

Grain Valley officials have been preparing for the gathering for more than a year, said city spokeswoman Sara Nadeau.

The city expects an economic boost to the community of about $5 million. The bikers are collecting donations of non-perishable food items to help the needy.

"We're really excited about that," Nadeau said. "The Grain Valley Assistance Council food pantry has been getting a little low, so we're super excited to be able to be set up for them after this weekend."

The Grain Valley Police Department will have some help in keeping order and maintaining traffic flow. Officers from Oak Grove, deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office and troopers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol will send personnel to the city.

According to the group's website, the National Bikers Roundup is the largest camping motorcycle rally in the USA and is organized by a group of African American motorcycle clubs.
