Caitlin's Law to increase penalties for prior DUI offenders in Kansas

March 09, 2018 - 2:27 pm

The Kansas governor signed a bill into law today that will increase prison sentences for some DUI offenders.

Caitlin's Law is named after 24-year-old Caitlin Vogel of Stilwell who died nearly two years ago in a crash with a drunk driver who had two prior DUI convictions

The law will affect previously-convicted drunk drivers who injure or kill people in crashes, and also increases the presumed prison sentence from 5 years to nearly 8 years.

It takes effect in July.
