KMBZ News Director Lisa Carter

Where were you born?
I was born in Fairfield, Illinois on September 27th. (You didn’t think I was going to give the year, did you?) I share my birthday with my husband (Dale) and Mike Shanin .

Where did you go to school?

University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, Indiana.

How long have you been in radio?

Radio has been my passion for many years!

Where have you worked in radio… other industries?

I started my radio career in Evansville, Indiana, where I co-hosted a morning show with my husband. When we moved to Hartford, Connecticut, I worked in newspaper for about three years. It paid the bills, but just wasn’t satisfying. When radio is in your blood, it’s hard to be happy doing anything else

Any special awards, accolades… et cetera?

I’ve been honored by the Associated Press in both Indiana and Missouri, the Kansas Association of Broadcasters, the Missouri Broadcasters Association and am the recipient of a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Best News Series.

Kids, family?
Lisa and her husband live in Blue Springs with their sons Matt and Jonathan, along with 2 black and white shih tzus named Daphnie and Dexter.

Hobbies?
Photography and gardening. Love to capture moments in time.   My husband and I like to attend Chiefs games, but I always have to remind myself to whistle—not yell! I’ve lost my voice several times because of my “enthusiasm?” I’m a loyal BAND PARENT! (That means my Saturdays from September through early November are spent at marching competitions) Our son Matt played trumpet in the Blue Springs High School Golden Regiment. One of my dearest memories of Matt is from 2005 when the band marched in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Our youngest son Jonathan plays trombone/euphonium in the Golden Regiment. He has marched in the Rose Parade, Presidential Inaugural Parade and 2010 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. His love of music makes my heart happy! We won the music  “lottery” by ending up in the Blue Springs School District.

In my "spare" time, I travel to see one of the best horn bands on the planet...Here Come The Mummies!!! (yep, I'm a fan :)

I am a self-professed Facebook/Twitter addict!  I love the fact that I’ve been able to reconnect with long-lost friends and make new ones…all because of technology!
